Mechanical interlock

Mechanical interlock

It is widely used in automatic control circuits.

It is the mechanical protection between the contactors, i.e. mechanical interlock

And this tool is connected between two contactors

The importance of mechanical protection

This protection ensures that a contactor does not work when the other is working.. that is, the contactor does not work at the same time

For more clarification.. suppose we have contactors K1 and K2

When the K1 contactor is working, the K2 contactor cannot be operated until after the K1 contactor has been turned off and vice versa.

mechanical interlock uses

- It is used in the control circuit of a two-way motor .. where there are two contactors, each contactor is responsible for operating a certain direction, and of course the contactors cannot work together at the same time (which will lead to mechanical problems and also a short circuit)

- It is also used in the ATS circuit .. This circuit is used for automatic or manual conversion between the general electricity and the generator electricity ... Of course, the two sources must not work together (or the generator will burn out). So, mechanical protection must be installed between the generator contactor and the contactor general current..

- Another use of mechanical interlock is in the star-delta engine start circuit.. where the contactor responsible for the delta connection must not work with the contactor responsible for operating the star circuit..otherwise a dangerous short circuit can burn the engine..

Of course, there are many other uses

How to choose mechanical protection for contactors

It must be taken into account that the mechanical protection has the same size and type of contactor that will be installed on them

Note: There are special types of contactors that consist of two contactors combined together, including mechanical protection ... and these types are sold ready-made.
